Time Recorder FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about this product
How can I edit an existing entry?
Double Tapping an entry on the main view will take you to the details screen
where you can alter the details (including the time period, description etc.),
alternativily, you can find the entry in the Project view, select it and do the same.
How can I backup my data?
All the data is stored in a file called TimeRecorder.dat in the MyDocuments folder
(default opened location when explore from ActiveSync). Drag this file to a host machine
- and your data is backed up! Alternativily backup the machine via ActiveSync backup facilities.
How can I perform more detailed analysis?
We have a much more powerful reporting engine still under development, but in
the mean time the easy route is to export the data to Excel or CSV (on the tools
menu), move this to a desktop machine, and import into Excel.
How can I delete a time entry?
First go to the Project View, select the Project, then select the task (double tap),
the next screen shows the time entries for that task, select one and the delete button
will become enabled, press and its gone. Note that this cannot be undone. This approach
is improved (shortened) post version 2.32 -Just double tap the entry on the day view
window (i.e. edit the entry), and a delete button is available directly.
I have upgraded to a PocketPC 2003 device, and copied across the
data file, but are getting the error "Failed to initialize storage", what can I do?
Microsoft changed the underlying database format for the PocketPC 2003 operating system,
thus the old databases are not compatiable, all is not lost though, Microsoft have provided
a tool to convert the format, it is avaiable here.
Macintosh or Linux Host Machines
The current installers are built for installing from a windows desktop machine
alternativly you can use the CAB files - copy these to the target PocketPC and run
them via File Explorer. If you have purchased from say Handango, and have the
executable, but would like CAB files, then please contact us via our
upgrade page.
Multiple Icons
A few people have noticed multiple icons in the start menu after they have upgraded
to the full version. Although the installer is designed not to do this, it sometimes
seems to fail in this aspect. They can be removed manually, by going to the top of
the directory tree (using Explore in ActiveSync, or File Explorer on the device), then
selecting My PocketPC (taking you to the top of the directory tree), then selecting
Windows and then Start Menu. Each icon on the start menu exists as a entry in this
directory - delete the unwanted ones. Ideally this would not happen, and is being
investigated.
